In person and online therapy for teens and adults near Minneapolis and across MN

Do you find your sports performance struggling no matter how hard you try to get back on track?

You used to perform at your best, and now you’re struggling to find that same spark. Perhaps you’ve healed physically from an injury, but something still feels off when it comes to your performance. No matter how hard you practice or how much you push yourself, you’re still falling short of your own expectations, as well as those of your coach and family. Despite trying everything, nothing seems to work, leaving your confidence shaken and making you question if you’ve lost your edge.

Are you stuck “in your head” and the harder you try, the worse it gets?

The more you feel stuck and unable to perform, the more the worries begin to pile up. What if I miss the next shot? What if I get injured again? What if I let my team down? The more you focus on these “what ifs,” the harder it becomes to break free from the cycle and get back to the level you know you’re capable of.

You are ready get back to peak performance.

Let’s resolve your performance challenges at their source.

 FAQs

  • When our performance isn’t where we want it to be, we often double down on practice and effort, only to find ourselves frustrated and still stuck. Many traditional approaches to performance challenges focus on a top-down, cognitive approach, which involves reframing thoughts and adjusting thinking patterns. Brainspotting, on the other hand, uses a bottom-up approach, allowing you to resolve challenges at their root, deep within the brain.

  • Before starting Brainspotting for sports performance, we’ll meet for an intake session to gather a detailed history of your athletic development, injury background, past performance challenges, and to define your goals and expectations. Brainspotting typically takes place in a standard 50-minute session, but we can also consider a longer, more intensive session for deeper, faster healing.

During each session, we’ll begin with a brief check-in to assess your progress, identify any challenges, and determine the focus for that day’s work. We’ll then dive into the Brainspotting session, and towards the end, we’ll spend a few minutes for a debrief, grounding exercise, and to discuss next steps moving forward.

  • The frequency and duration of sessions are tailored to the individual, taking into account the depth of their injury or trauma history, as well as their overall mental health background. In general, teens and young adults often respond more quickly when working through repetitive sports performance challenges compared to adults. Each person’s journey is unique, and together we’ll adjust the pace to ensure the most effective healing process for you.

  • Telehealth sessions can be just as effective as in-office sessions, depending on the nature of the challenges you're facing. In some cases, it might be beneficial to hold a session at an alternative location, such as a training facility or competition venue. For these off-site sessions, additional travel costs may apply. If you're interested in exploring off-site sessions, feel free to reach out to me directly to discuss the details and find the best approach for your needs.
